Join Jim Carlyle, Phil Cloud, and Popeye John (this year's "Young GM Vehicle Pilot") for our annual collection of items to be sent by Blue Star Mothers to our deployed Servicemen and Servicewomen. A PDF List of needs can be found at on our main page. Buying ahead of time at back to school and other autumn sales is encouraged! Last year 260 boxes were mailed, this year we hope to do at least as many with the (new) help of the Ionia Moose Lodge and others!

We've added a new broadcast location at Lake Odessa, and we thank the Moose Lodge in Ionia for the use of part of their lodge for the new storing and sorting/boxing location!

Drop-off of items BEGINNING IN NOVEMBER is as follows:

Drop-off Location Ionia: Auction Addicts' Attic, Chamber, DDA, Moose, City Hall. Young's two locations.

Drop-off Locations for Belding area folks: WGLM Radio, M-91, Greenville.

Drop-off Location Saranac: Saranac Community Schools Main Office

Treasures for Troops Wrap-up at Young GM Store, Ionia

We received a call at WION this morning that the Elementary School Art classes at Saranac are once again taking on the challenge and the fun of making cards for our November "Treasures for Troops" event. Thank you SO much for this effort! We know it takes lots of time to produce so many great cards, and in past years, we've had BAGS of them from Saranac's young students. Thank you so much in advance for your young people's contribution to the boxes we send overseas. We KNOW the cards mean so much to our deployed Servicemen and Servicewomen. We look forward to seeing the Saranac young people's cards and creativity come November's "Treasures for Troops!"

September 29, 2019

"Treasures for Troops" is now official. Why? Because we now have both our first monetary donation for postage, (Thank you Engineer Greg)...and...our first OFFICIAL item donation. Once again...Scott and Eva of sent us two packages of jerky, one of the most appreciated things sent to troops each year! Thank you Scott, Eva, and for the donation and the nice letter!

(October 15, 2019-Ionia)The Auction Addict's attic in Ionia has a display of some of the needs for soldiers, and plans a special sale with proceeds going TO Treasures for Troops! Thank you Lisa and the staff at the Auction Addict's Attic on Ionia's North side, already gearing up! (and, they're a drop off point for items and monetary donations as well.)

OCTOBER 30, 2019 (Wednesday)
from WION's Facebook Page

WONDERFUL day today as we see the sign at the Auction Addict's Attic change over to promote this event...(see picture below...)
We received this GREAT note from Mr. Al Eckman, Advisor to Lowell High School's radio station, WRWW-LP. It made our day!
The Lowell Ledger/Buyers Guide/Lowell Litho has agreed to run off 2200 'flyers' that I put together, for our middle and high school students about "Treasures For Troops", at no cost. I think I told you that the middle school is getting involved this year, as well as the high school. The students will receive them (the flyers) next Tuesday. The Lowell Ledger interviewed me, today, for an article to appear next week about Treasures for Troops.. We also put together the on-air promos & liners that we will start to 'air' in the next few days (on the high school station.) A WRWW student will do a short video/audio presentation on the 'Red Arrow Report' about T for T that all high school students will see/hear, next week during the school announcements.

- 'Gearing Up.'

WION and the Blue Star Mothers are GRATEFUL to the Lowell Ledger/Buyer's Guide for their assistance. seeing businesses use their own resources to contribute in their own way is heartwarming!

Need we say more? This is how many boxes are leaving West Central Michigan for deployed servicemen and women! Congratulations to EVERYONE who donated in any way to our 6th annual "Treasures for Troops" And thank you to those who support LOCAL RADIO! (Including Lowell's High School station, 92.3 FM!) We can only do projects like this when we're supported year round by LOCAL ADVERTISERS!

November 19th, 2019

So by now you know we have sent 300 boxes to our servicemen and servicewomen in our "Treasues for troops!  Here's a few of the posts made about the effort on facebook!  (And, a link to the photo album of broadcasts, homemade cards, interviews and locations.)

November 18th 2019

It is truly amazing to watch how quickly the 300 boxes can help fill-up the Saranac Post Office. We're grateful for their enthusiasm for the Treasures for Troops project, for accepting our boxes, for allowing us to assist in "Loading-IN"...and for their enthusiasm for our project. Oh, and the coffee they served to Jim Carlyle was pretty good, too!!
Please thank these hard working folks in Saranac.Drop in with a thanks. Take them cookies, lunch, or a thank you note.
WION, WGLM, and WRWW at Lowell Schools send a HUGE thank you out to our postal employees in Saranac, those who made this possible. RADIO and community are very connected in West Central Michigan and we're all proud!
By the way, without the help of Phil Pakiela of the Patriot Guard Riders (and owner of an enclosed trailer) the TRANSPORT of all these boxes wouldn't be as easy, either. Please pass on our thanks to him, too! He's been with us for MANY a mail-out now.
